A youth from Aligarh Muslim University was arrested after he failed to wish Prime Minister Narendra Modi on his birthday. The youth was arrested under Unlawful Activities Prevention Act.
On 17th September, Prime Minister Narendra Modi celebrated his 70th birthday. On the auspicious occasion, he received wishes from world leaders including the Nepal Prime Minister who claimed that Ayodhya is in Nepal. However, a youth from Aligarh Muslim University was arrested after he failed to wish the PM on twitter. He was slapped with UAPA and was dragged out of his home by the Uttar Pradesh Police. A source close to the PMO said,
“Prime Minister is like the father of the nation. Would you not wish your father on his birthday?”
The accused youth was reportedly online for almost 10 hours and yet failed to wish the PM. When the authorities looked into his social media activities, it was found that he was proposing to his longtime girlfriend for marriage. This was also seen as offensive to the leader. The source said,
“A single tweet to the PM wouldn’t have taken much time. If he purposefully evaded that, there seems to be something fishy. Upon investigation, it was found that he had eaten beef when he had traveled abroad. He also once did not stand up for national anthem in one of the world cup matches in 2003. This is enough evidence to make a case against him.”
Post this, Twitter was flooded with birthday wishes to the PM along with the hashtag National Unemployment Day.
